3D Realms Closes

3D Realms, the developer often mocked for its upcoming "vaporware" sequel "Duke Nukem Forever", has shut down. Shacknews was reporting this story first on a tip, and then a post was made on the official forums, confirming the news (their site seems to be down at the moment).

Take-Two has responded, stating that they were not funding the development of the game, but still own the publishing rights, so there’s a possibility that the game isn’t completely dead:

"We can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title," said Take-Two VP of communications Alan Lewis in a prepared statement.

"In addition, Take-Two continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever," he added.
